Sergeant Ben Ross of 3rd Regiment, Royal Military Police, was killed by a sucide bomber during a patrol in Gereshk in Helmand province.

His Commanding Officer Major Adam Quantrell described Sergeant Ross as a professional with a 'warrior attitude.'

"Sergeant Ross's tragic death has come as a huge shock to all of us and the hole that has been left by him appears at the moment to be overwhelming. I know if Ben were still here he would just look at me, tell me to fill the hole and get on with the job," he said.

~~MERRY CHRISTMAS ANGEL.~~

A Christmas Wish

How very much you're missed
Isn't easy to explain
For, words never could convey
The sadness and the pain.

Although gone now from this life
You've left memories to treasure
That are the sweetest kind
And will softly stay forever.

At Christmastime especially
You're missed throughout each day
And all those lovely memories
Are with us, here to stay

Rememberance

Thinking of you and your family today,especially today.
Another hero we have lost.
Take good care and watch over them.
John & Marilyn parents of Cpl "Si" Miller RMP killed in Iraq 2003. Also, our other son Jon and his wife, both RMP knew Ben.

THE FINAL INSPECTION

The soldier stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, you soldier,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"

The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.

But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep...
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't, I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, you soldier,
You've borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in Hell

LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP GO HAND IN HAND

May the morning sun caress you,
The rains of change refresh you,
And the gentle breeze of His Spirit
Lift the wings of your heart.

The time with you was all too brief,
years have passed but we still grieve,
Missing you is still very strong.
Although the years have come and gone
Your memory is deep within out hearts,
Until the day we are no longer apart.

An honour to have known Ben

Ben was a consumate professional soldier who like too many others has fallen in the line of duty. It has been my privilege to have known and worked with Ben in Afghanistan albeit briefly. I remember Ben as a committed and passionate individual who was proud of the role he played, committed to his friends and fiercely proud of his wife. Above all, he did what he did for others and not for himself. His blood will nourish the seeds of lasting peace in Afghanistan. If one must put a value on life, then there can be no greater worth. We miss you Ben but we do not forget you

Fallen HeroI stare at the coffin;
Draped with the nation's cloth.

I'm momentarily startled;
As the guns go off.

Another fallen soldier;
Being laid to rest.

I struggle to breathe;
For this tightness in my chest.

The bugler so smooth;
As he hits every note.

It is hard to swallow;
Because of this lump in my throat.

Tears fall like rain;
As I look to the sky.

No matter how many times I hear it;
Taps still makes me cry.

The bugle now silent;
As we pray for the dead.

I gather myself;
As I bow down my head.

Lord bless these heroes;
Who have given their lives.

Comfort their children;
Their husbands and wives.

Let us not forget;
They have given their all.

Soldier

There is discipline in A Soldier
you can see it when he walks,
There is honor in A Soldier
you hear it when he talks.
There is courage in A Soldier
you can see it in his eyes,
There is loyalty in A Soldier
that he will not compromise.
There is something in A Soldier
that makes him stand apart,
There is strength in A Soldier
that beats from his heart.
A Soldier isn't a title any man
can be hired to do,
A Soldier is the soul of that man
buried deep inside of you.
A Soldier's job isn't finished after
an 8 hour day or a 40 hour week,
A Soldier is always A Soldier
even while he sleeps.
A Soldier serves his country first
and his life is left behind,
A Soldier has to sacrifice what
comes first in a civilian's mind.
If you are civilian -
I am saying this to you.....
next time you see A Soldier
remember what they do.
A Soldier is the reason our land
is 'Home of the free',
A Soldier is the one that is brave
protecting you and me.
If you are A Soldier -
I am saying this to you.....
Thank God for EVERY SOLDIER
Thank God for what YOU do!

God called your name so gently,
That only you could hear.
No one heard the footsteps,
Of angels drawing near.

Softly from the shadows
There came a gentle call,
You closed your eyes and went to sleep,
And quietly left us all.
